RAPID2 is short for Randomised trial of clinical and cost effectiveness of Administration of Prehospital fascia Iliaca compartment block (FICB) for emergency hip fracture care Delivery.
We aim to find out whether the local anaesthetic injection (FICB) – given by paramedics at the scene of injury – reduces pain, is safe, improves patient health outcomes, and how much it costs the NHS.
We aim to recruit 1400 patients across 5 hospital catchment areas within 4 ambulance services.
Number of patients recruited to date (08/03/2024):
16
The RAPID2 trial is led by Swansea University.
